Jam
Though it's hard to imagine, my Grandma Ruth would have been 99 years old today. To honor her memory, I made two batches of strawberry jam today. In all fairness, grandma Ruth would have preferred I make raspberry jelly. That was her specialty! But, I know she would be really impressed that I made any jam or jelly at all.
I really do miss her and all of my grandparents. They were pretty awesome grandparents! I wish they could see my kids now and I wish my kids could know my grandparents as I knew them. Yet, I am comforted by and so thankful for all the memories that I have of them.
In other news, our little patient is doing a little better. It is still a struggle to get him to eat and drink, but his pain is not as bad as it was on Tuesday and Wednesday. He was running a fever earlier in the week, but that is gone now. He is struggling with a little cough and that really hurts his throat. His little smile is returning and that is a welcome sight!

Brave!
Part of the text for the previous picture didn't publish when I submitted the previous post. You might have noticed that Mark is all dressed up to go into the OR. Given his history with passing out, this made me a little nervous. Mark bravely walked with James to the operating room and sat with our sweet little dude while he was put under (with root beer float flavored gas!). To my surprise, and maybe his own, Mark made it into the OR and back without any issues. He said it was time he faced his fears and he did great!!! I may have been more nervous about Mark going into the OR with James than James going into the OR for his surgery.
Ice-cream for Breakfast
After a long day/evening at the hospital yesterday, James is working hard at feeling better at home today. We are being very vigilant about giving his pain medicine every four hours as directed, because he clearly needs it. Unfortunately, the medication only seems to provide him comfort for about three hours. The last hour he is sadly miserable. Hopefully tomorrow will be much better!

Smarty Pants!
At the mall today, I told Claranna that she had to hold someone's hand or ride in the stroller. She said, " Okay, I'll hold MY hand!" What a smarty pants!!!
